There aren’t any compulsory vaccinations for travelers to Tajikistan although you must be up-to-date on Typhoid Tetanus Polio as well as Hepatitis A. Malaria is present in some parts of Tajikistan therefore we suggest you get advice from your doctor or travel specialist about the correct immunisations and preventative treatment.
Cultural Sensitivity
On our excursions, you’ll often interact with locals who have unique customs and practices. You are asked to be respectful and considerate to the locals. Your tour-guides and tour-leaders will always be in a position to provide you with the appropriate advice.
The first thing to say about traveling through Central Asia is that most areas, particularly the cities and towns, have a much more laid-back attitude to Islam than their neighbours to the south in Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, it should also be remembered that it is technically a Muslim region and therefore caution is recommended in some areas. Long-sleeved shirts and shorts are fine for both sexes in the cities, but in the case of visiting any mosques active, all visitors should wear pants that are below the knee, and tops that cover shoulders. Women should also wear an asymmetrical head scarf. The tour takes us to remote locations that aren’t normally frequented by tourists. The locals are modest in dress so it is likely that you will feel more comfortable in conservative clothing.
Language & Religion
Tajikistan’s official language is Tajik. Russian is still routinely used in business and communications.
The majority of the population adhere to Sunni Islam, with the minority of them following Russian Orthodox, Catholicism, Buddhism and Judaism.
Drinks and food
The focus of this tour is soups and meats. In the more distant and higher altitude regions, vegetables can be difficult to find. However, there’s a lot of dried nuts and dried fruits that you can try.
The alcohol options are limited to beers or vodka. If you want to try other drinks – like Scotch or Gin is advised to purchase the item duty-free and take it with them. It can be difficult to locate mixer drinks such as tonic water.
