Why Humans Adore Animals

Throughout history, no species has ever been as captivated by its fellow creatures as individuals. We have hunted animals, eaten them, raised them, bred them, domesticated them, drawn them, composed songs and poetry about the subject, and loved them for millennia. So why? What’s behind this intense fascination we’ve always had with creatures, whether fuzzy and cute or scary and dangerous–or both?

The excitement. Nothing compares with the thrill you obtain when you see a major animal in their habitat for the first time. We love to the joy of encountering bears, big cats, deer, eagles, owls, as well as other herbivores and predators. Even though it’s ill-advised to get this done within the wild, we love watch them unseen, our breath caught within our throats and our hearts full of wonder. Just seeing the majesty and strength of these remarkable creatures once can be quite a life-changing experience. Another thing that bakes an encounter having a large animal inside the wild so memorable is the fact it’s so rare–very not enough people contain the privilege of encountering these animals anywhere, aside from in the wild. We like to check out zoos to determine big animals we’d never see inside the wild, from your safe viewpoint behind glass or bars. Even seeing them in captivity can give us exactly the same feeling of excitement.

Curiosity. What do animals do when we’re not looking? How must they behave when they are happy, sad, scared, angry, or hungry? Just how do they hunt, so what can they eat, along with what do they really teach us about existing? A lot of us are thirsty for understanding of animals along with their lives. We would like to understand how they’re similar from us and just how they’re different. Maybe when we knew all you need to know about other animals, we’re able to better understand ourselves as a species–and use a clearer picture of where we originated in. We love to zoos and other animal facilities for that opportunity they offer us to understand animals and discover them close-up–some zoos even enable you to shadow a zookeeper for a day. It’s difficult to locate anyone that wouldn’t would delight in having the opportunity to learn more about animals both rare and various.

A feeling of wonder. As a kid, did you use a favorite animal–one that seemed so beautiful, outlandish, powerful, or special you’re convinced it required magical powers? Some of us fell in love with the expressive attractiveness of horses, us with bizarre and outlandish animals like elephants and giraffes, and several individuals with powerful hunters like lions or wolves. We’ve always secretly wondered what it really will be prefer to run being a cheetah, fly like an eagle, swing as being a monkey, or swim like a dolphin. From your biggest whales towards the tiniest amoebas, animals have always filled us having a a sense wonder. And with their physical abilities often far beyond ours, animals go about doing have particular powers. Like a species, animals have inspired us to find out to fly in planes and fall under the ocean in submarines–but we will never get it done together with the grace of an bird or perhaps a fish. Maybe this is why so many people care about protecting animals from pollution and poaching. When we lost the truly amazing selection of animal species on our planet, we’d kill humanity’s a feeling of wonder and inspiration, as well.

Creating a connection. So many of us have loved a pet–whether a dog, the cat, a horse, a parakeet, or perhaps a hamster. Anyone who’s ever owned a pet will show you that animals have feelings and emotions, their own intelligence, as well as their own means of communicating–and which they experienced a strong emotional connection with their pet. We like that connection we’ve with the pets, and several people believe one can possibly foster a link with any animal, no matter how distinctive from us. We dream about forging bonds with lions and tigers, observing monkeys and horses, and emailing dolphins and whales. We like when a fierce bird of prey visits our arm without hesitation, every time a cat cuddles trustingly within our laps, whenever a horse nickers to all of us like he’s greeting a vintage friend. Many animal-lovers will show you that animals make wonderful friends–they as well, they don’t judge, and they also don’t hate. Irrespective of your reason for craving that hitting the ground with an animal, most in your species do. When we’re emailing an animal, we humans feel less alone.
