‘Here to aid with all of your health as well as safety needs’
I am happy to have joined the c’s at Acorn Safety Companies at such an interesting time. Acorn has strong ambitions for the future, particularly around its legionella bacteria services, and I can’t wait around to be part of it.
I’ve spent many years working in the lake industry, in plumbing and remedials and more lately gaining valuable experience carrying out legionella risk exams.
I’ve already been on the road meeting our clients face-to-face, and I’m really looking forward to developing these important connections.
‘What is legionella bacteria and am I at risk?’
Legionella germs is microscopic and is found in streams, rivers, reservoirs and ponds, usually in really low numbers, where they will don’t cause any issues. The difficulty comes when these tiny bacteria get trapped within your water system and multiply, potentially resulting in Legionnaires’ Disease.
According to the Authorities, there were 503 cases of Legionnaires’ Disease in the UK in 2019. It’s a serious illness which can be dangerous – symptoms to understand include fever, frustration, cough and shortness of breath.
While legionella bacteria may cause problems anywhere due to the right conditions, a number of areas such as spots where water is actually stored or recirculated, the location where the water temperature is in between 20-45°C or where oxidation, sludge, scale along with organic matters are mixed together, are considered to be in much higher risk.
Those people who are more susceptible to an infection, including the elderly and the ones with weakened natureal defenses, need to be especially watchful.
‘So, what can I do to protect myself and those close to me?’
Employers, the particular self-employed, facilities managers, health and safety officers and landlords, are all among those that have a duty to protect individuals against the risks related to legionella bacteria.
The rules about legionella bacteria are really sophisticated and testing should be carried out by an expert — this is where Acorn Safety Services can really help.
A full Legionella Risk Assessment carried out by one of our qualified assessors is the first important step in identifying and assessing your own risk.
The survey will be for any non-Water Regulations Acceptance Scheme approved fixtures, assess your frosty water tank and types of conditions in your hot water cyndrical tube and accessibility to all aspects that require monitoring and also maintenance by law.
Following the assessment, you will receive a full report that will include any assistance with remedial work and also repairs and measures you should take next.
To make things a whole lot easier for you to manage, we also offer a free online website where our clientele can store their particular risk assessment paperwork safely and securely online ensuring they are fully obtainable whenever you need these.
And because Acorn Safety Companies is a fully-independent health and safety becoming a consultant, you can be sure that guidance we offer is with your easiest interests at heart.
